Uber does not charge a flat price per mile. It adds up a base fare, a charge for each mile, a charge for each minute, and a booking fee. So the honest answer to "how much is a 10-mile Uber?" is a range, and it depends on how long those 10 miles take.

Why a Short Uber Ride Costs More Per Mile
Look at the last column of the table. A 1-mile ride works out to $6.00 a mile. A 10-mile ride works out to $2.12 a mile. A 30-mile ride is only $1.73 a mile.
The reason is simple. Two parts of the fare do not change with distance: the base fare ($1.50) and the booking fee ($2.20). On a short ride they make up a big share of the bill. On a long ride they almost disappear. There is also a minimum fare of $6.00, so the shortest rides never go below that.
This is why you cannot just multiply miles by a per-mile rate. Uber's per-mile charge here is $1.20, but no real trip costs only that. Here is the full math for 10 miles in 25 minutes:

What Traffic Does to the Price of the Same Miles
Because Uber charges for each minute, the same 10 miles can cost quite different amounts.

What Surge Does at Each Distance
Surge multiplies the time and distance part of the fare. It does not multiply the booking fee. The longer the ride, the more dollars a surge adds.

What About 50 or 100 Miles?
A 50-mile UberX models at $70.58–$89.82 and a 100-mile ride at $132.09–$168.11. Treat these as a floor. Long trips often include tolls, and a driver can turn down a very long trip because they have to drive back empty.

What These Estimates Leave Out
- Tolls. Uber passes tolls on to the rider. See does Uber charge for tolls?
- Airport fees. Most large airports add a pickup or drop-off fee, often $2 to $6.
- Local charges. Some cities add their own fees, such as New York's congestion charge.
- Wait time. Uber can charge by the minute if the driver waits for you.
- Tip. Never included in the quote.
The estimates also assume no surge. Treat them as the normal price on a calm day, then check the app for the live number.
