Where to Get Picked Up at LGA

LGA charges a $3.50 rideshare pickup surcharge (set by Port Authority of NY & NJ, effective March 2026). The fee is the same on both Uber and Lyft, and is automatically included in your fare estimate. Pickup logistics differ by terminal:

Terminal A (Marine Air)

Arrivals level curbside, follow rideshare signage

Terminal A is the smallest LGA terminal; rideshare pickup is curbside and fast.

Terminal B

Arrivals level rideshare pickup zone

Newly renovated Terminal B has dedicated rideshare lanes; expect 3-5 min driver waits.

Terminal C (Delta)

Arrivals level rideshare pickup zone

Newly renovated Terminal C also has dedicated lanes; Delta hub-bank surge can stack here.

When Surge Hits Hardest at LGA

Peak Surge Windows

Weekday evening business arrivals (5:30 PM – 8:00 PM) at Terminal C (Delta hub) push surge above 1.6x. Sunday afternoons are the worst weekend window.

Best Low-Surge Window

Tuesday and Wednesday mid-mornings (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM) produce the lowest LGA surge multipliers.

Cheaper Alternatives to Rideshare at LGA

M60 bus connects LGA to 125th Street in Harlem (Metro-North and 4/5/6 subway transfer) for $2.90. Q70 LaGuardia Link bus connects to Jackson Heights (E/F/M/R/7 subway) for $2.90. The proposed AirTrain LGA was canceled in 2023 — no rail connection currently exists. Taxi flat rate is $13-17 plus tolls/tip; cheaper than rideshare for most Manhattan trips.

Recent Fee & Operational Changes at LGA

In December 2025 the Port Authority approved raising the rideshare access fee from $2.50 to $3.50 per pickup and per drop-off across LGA, JFK, and EWR, effective March 15, 2026, with steps to $4.50 in March 2027 and $5.00 in March 2028. Taxis saw only a 25-cent pickup increase and pay no drop-off fee, sharpening the cab advantage on LGA round trips. Separately, the completed Terminal B and C renovations significantly improved rideshare pickup efficiency.

LGA Pricing: Our Analysis

Computed from Uber's published NYC rates plus the $3.50 pickup fee and tolls, a typical LGA-to-Midtown Manhattan UberX trip lands around $47.40 — closer to $65.80 in weekday evening surge and nearer $37.20 on a weekend midday. Yellow cab fares for the same trip average $32-38 all-in (meter + tolls + tip), and the rate-card math puts cabs ahead in roughly 65% of typical LGA-to-Manhattan time-of-day scenarios.

Local Take: Rideshare at LGA

“LGA is the New York airport where rideshare math is most favorable, but yellow cabs are still often the better choice. The cab from LGA to Midtown is $25-35 all-in, often less than a $45-55 rideshare during peak. For East Side hotels, the Q70 bus to Jackson Heights then 7 train to Grand Central is $2.90 and surprisingly fast. The March 2026 access-fee increase — now charged on drop-offs too — narrows the rideshare advantage further. If you have any flexibility, the M60 bus to Harlem then 4/5/6 subway is a $2.90 commuter option that East Siders rarely consider.”

About LaGuardia Airport

LaGuardia Airport (LGA) serves the New York metropolitan area. Compare Uber, Lyft, and taxi prices for rides to and from LGA.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Uber pickup work at the rebuilt LaGuardia terminals?
Pickup locations vary by terminal — at Terminal B, app rides use the arrivals level. The rebuilt LGA terminals each have marked app-ride zones, and the app assigns your exact spot when you request. The roadways loop tightly, so stay at the assigned door or drivers get cycled around.
Is LaGuardia the fastest airport for reaching Manhattan?
Usually — it is the closest of the three NYC-area airports, with Manhattan rides running 20-40 minutes depending on traffic. That proximity also makes it the cheapest of the three for rideshare into the city, all else equal.
Can I take the subway from LGA?
Not directly — LaGuardia has no rail connection. The free Q70 LaGuardia Link bus bridges the gap to the subway in Queens, which makes a genuinely cheap trip into Manhattan possible if you do not mind the transfer.
Should I join the taxi line or order an Uber at LaGuardia?
LGA cabs run on the standard meter — there is no JFK-style flat rate here — so the math shifts with traffic and surge. When app prices spike after a busy arrival bank, the taxi line often wins; in quiet hours, the upfront rideshare quote usually does.
Why do LGA pickups take longer than the app estimate?
The compact footprint and looping roadways mean drivers can be five minutes out yet stuck circling. Terminal congestion peaks in the evening. Requesting once you are physically at the pickup door — not at baggage claim — keeps your driver from being forced into another loop.
How much is a ride from LaGuardia to Brooklyn?
It depends heavily on which part of Brooklyn — the borough is large, and BQE traffic can dominate the trip time. Fares generally land near or above a Manhattan run. Compare both apps; the spread between Uber and Lyft on outer-borough trips is often wider than within Manhattan.
