3 routes with Uber, Lyft & taxi fare estimates

How much does an Uber or Lyft cost from SEA (Seattle-Tacoma International Airport)? Rideshare fares from SEA vary by destination, time of day, and surge demand. We compare Uber, Lyft, and taxi prices across 3 popular routes from this airport. Most major US airports charge a $2–$6 rideshare pickup surcharge that applies equally to both Uber and Lyft. Compare all options below to find the cheapest ride from SEA.
Estimated standard fares from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to 3 popular destinations. Compare distance, time, and price across providers at a glance.
| Destination | Distance | Time | UberX | Lyft | Taxi |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seattle Downtown | 14.1 mi | ~34 min | — | — | — |
| Bellevue Downtown | 15.8 mi | ~38 min | — | — | — |
| Tacoma Downtown | 19.5 mi | ~47 min | — | — | — |
Fares reflect standard (non-surge) pricing. SEA airport surcharges of $2.50–$6 may apply and are included. Surge multipliers during peak flight banks can add 1.5x–3x. Click any destination for a detailed route breakdown.
SEA charges a $6.00 rideshare pickup surcharge (set by Port of Seattle, effective October 2024). The fee is the same on both Uber and Lyft, and is automatically included in your fare estimate. Pickup logistics differ by terminal:
Main Terminal
3rd floor of the airport parking garage (follow signs from baggage claim, ~5 min walk)
SEA consolidates all rideshare in the parking garage; no curbside pickup is permitted.
Peak Surge Windows
Evening international and West Coast business arrivals (5:30 PM – 9:00 PM) push surge above 1.5x. Friday afternoons are the worst departure window because Highway 99 backs up.
Best Low-Surge Window
Tuesday through Thursday mid-mornings (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM) produce the lowest SEA surge. Late evenings after 11:00 PM are also low-surge but driver supply thins quickly.
Link Light Rail runs from SEA directly to Downtown Seattle and the University District every 6-15 minutes for $3.00 — a $25-40 savings vs. rideshare. The light rail station is connected to the terminal by a covered walkway. Taxi flat rate from SEA to Downtown Seattle is $40-50.
The Port of Seattle raised the rideshare pickup fee from $5.00 to $6.00 in October 2024, the second increase since the original $2.50 fee. The Port is also studying a "congestion surcharge" that would charge an additional $2-3 during peak hours.

Computed from Uber's published Seattle rates plus the $6.00 pickup fee, a typical SEA-to-Downtown Seattle UberX trip lands around $34.20 — closer to $46.80 with weekday evening surge, and nearer $27.40 on a weekend midday. Link Light Rail's $3 fare is 91% cheaper than the typical rideshare fare — the largest transit-vs-rideshare savings ratio of any major US airport we cover.

“SEA is the rare US airport where the light rail is so good that skipping rideshare for downtown trips is the honest recommendation. The Link costs $3, runs every 6 minutes during the day, and the station is right there. The walk from baggage claim to the rideshare pickup in the parking garage takes about 7 minutes — by the time you walk there, ride a Link train, and get to your downtown hotel, it is a wash on time but a 90% savings on cost. For Bellevue or Eastside trips, rideshare wins because Link does not reach Bellevue yet. The 2024 fee hike to $6 made the math even worse for rideshare — if you are choosing between $35 Uber and $3 Link, take the train.”

|---|---|---|---|
| UberX | uber | baseline | $44–$55 |
| Uber Comfort | uber | +20% | $53–$66 |
